When using the resources for reporting and transferring claims data, which may have originated in some standard other than FHIR, the Claim resource is useful if only the request side of the information exchange is of interest. If, however, both the request and the adjudication information is to be reported then the ExplanationOfBenefit should be used instead. As a self-employed person, you adequately account by reporting your actual expenses. If you aren’t sure if the reimbursement or expense allowance arrangement is an accountable or nonaccountable plan, ask your employer. A nonaccountable plan is a reimbursement or expense allowance arrangement that doesn’t meet one or more of the three rules listed earlier under Accountable Plans. The employer must include the reimbursement amount up to the standard mileage rate, $6,700 (10,000 miles x 67 cents ($0.67) per mile), under code L in box 12 of the employee’s Form W-2. The employer must also include $300 ($7,000 − $6,700) in box 1 of the employee’s Form W-2. This is the reimbursement that is more than the standard mileage rate.
However, you can deduct any additional costs you have for hauling tools or instruments (such as for renting a trailer you tow with your car). You can deduct no more than $25 for business gifts you give directly or indirectly to each person during your tax year. Taxes and tips relating to a business meal are included as a cost of the meal and are subject to the 50% limit.

For those years, you used the appropriate MACRS Depreciation Chart to figure depreciation deductions totaling $41,660 ($10,100 for 2020, $16,100 for 2021, $9,700 for 2022, and $5,760 for 2023) under the 200% DB method. If you continue to use your car for business after the recovery period, you can claim a depreciation deduction in each succeeding tax year until you recover your basis in the car. The maximum amount you can deduct each year is determined by the date you placed the car in service and your business-use percentage. For example, no deduction is allowed for a year you use your car 100% for personal purposes. If the depreciation deductions for your car are reduced under the passenger automobile limits (discussed earlier), you will have unrecovered basis in your car at the end of the recovery period. If you continue to use your car for business, you can deduct that unrecovered basis (subject to depreciation limits) after the recovery period ends.

946 for years 2 through 5 that you own your car are for a full year’s depreciation. Years 1 and 6 apply the half-year or mid-quarter convention to the computation for you. If you dispose of the vehicle in years 2 through 5 and the half-year convention applies, then the full year’s depreciation amount must be divided by 2. If the mid-quarter convention applies, multiply the full year’s depreciation by the percentage from the following table for the quarter that you disposed of the car.
Your trip is considered entirely for business if you were outside the United States for a week or less, combining business and nonbusiness activities. In counting the days, don’t count the day you leave the United States, but do count the day you return to the United States.
